How to Throw a Killer Halloween Party With Pets

By on October 20, 2017

Throwing a Halloween party is challenging enough on its own. Food, decorations, music, themed games, and all the other fun details are already enough to think about without adding more to the list. But since the animals in your home can make or break the party you’ve been working so hard to organize in the first place, I’m going to add away to that list of yours. You’ll thank me later.

It’s usually the day of the party, about an hour before the first guest arrives, when the host realizes the cats keep destroying the spider web décor with the artfully placed spiders. Or that the dog keeps barking at the fog machine. Or that the birds are all freaked out from the spooky sound fx playlist. What now? Well, here are some things you’ll want to consider to ensure that your event goes off without a hitch.

This goes for the guest list and your pets. If you know your dog has bad manners or is afraid of too much noise, find a room far away from the main action where you can put their crate or bed, and just leave them out of the action. If you absolutely have to show off that adorable costume you just bought them, go for it. Just keep a time limit on it so that your pet’s stress level doesn’t get too high, and guests don’t get uncomfortable.

Obviously you know your guest list, but be extra aware of any fears or allergies of you’re planning on having your pets around. Or flip it around, and make sure your guests know that Sparky and Fido are going to be hosting the event with you, so they can show up prepared. That could be as simple as putting a reminder on your Facebook event page or your Evite. This takes all the guess work out of it.
