The Power Of High Heels
High-heeled shoes. Few fashion accessories; especially heels, are so beloved yet so controversial. Why the controversy? Some believe this particular shoe style is merely a tool to manipulate men and exert power (especially if the French study on wearing heels is to be believed. It found that the height of a woman’s shoe had a direct impact on a man’s behavior). Others are head over heels – no pun intended – in love with this enduring trend. As Coco Chanel once said, “keep your heels, head, and standards high.”
So, what is it about high heels? If you walk into any women’s shoe store, heels are in the storefront window. They are in the very front display unit. They fill the racks along the walls. Heels continue to be the A-list star while flats win for supporting actress. As a shoe addict myself, I understand the allure of high-heeled shoes. They tend to be more elaborate and decorative. Almost like a wearable piece of art. Just take the charity heels designed by Stuart Weitzman as an example. These spring-friendly shoes have beautiful details and a little something special. That makes them a must-have for shoe lovers of all ages.
Me personally, I love many types of shoes. Heels, flats, wedges, sandals. You name it, I love it. But there is nothing quite like a good pair of high heels. They instantly jazz up a pair of skinny jeans, add some flirty flair to a skirt and sweater combo, or pull together an evening look. Heels are versatile, sure…. but that isn’t what makes them special. Their real power is the way they make me feel. Wearing a pair of heels instantly makes me feel strong, beautiful, and confident. They are an instant ego boost!
The power that high heels do or do not have over men is irrelevant to me. It is the power that high heels give the woman wearing them that really counts. We all want to feel good about ourselves. To feel like we can take on the world. High-heels do that for me. They make me happy, give me strength, and make me feel totally unstoppable. And that is what beauty is all about.
Wearing sky-high heels won’t give every woman out there a surge of confidence…but there is definitely a pair of shoes that will. Find your favorites, feel fantastic, and put your best foot forward. What shoes make you feel powerful?
