Fitness Lifestyle: ditch the gym, work out at the Beach instead!

Who wants to spend all of their time at the gym? I prefer being outdoors as much as possible, especially when I’m working out! For those of you in warm weather areas, you know that Halloween, and that oh-so-delicious Blink-182 inspired Nurse costume will require a last-minute calf tone-up to max out the fishnets!

I recently met Nelli Davis of Nfit Life, which is a “fitness lifestyle” company that ditches traditional studios so you can spend your valuable time on the beach, in the pool or on a rooftop while getting in an intense workout.

Nelli was full of great ideas for workouts while I’m traveling or on vacation during the holidays. Team up with your BFF for motivation or sluice solo thru the pool, using water resistance training to engage your core and optimize your cardiovascular endurance; while reducing body fat percentage and increasing lean muscle mass. Bonus? you don’t sweat, because you’re in the pool. This has a particular draw for me! Another favorite place to workout has always been the beach, there’s something therapeutic about immersing yourself in the ocean – and the sound and feel of the waves amp up anti-stress benefits.

Benefits of Sea Water:

A swim in the sea may improve your mood and health. Hippocrates first used the word “thalassotherapy” to describe the healing effects of seawater, according to Pacific Naturopathic. Ancient Greeks appreciated the health and beauty benefits of this mineral-rich water and bathed and soaked in seawater-filled pools and hot tubs. Immersing your body in seawater can help increase your immune system function, improve circulation, promote overall well-being and hydrate your skin.

Swater workout with friendseawater contains vital elements, vitamins, mineral salts, trace elements, amino acids and living microorganisms that can produce antibiotic and antibacterial effects to help promote a healthy immune system. Inhaling a sea mist filled with negatively charged ions, or molecules that attach to your lungs also boosts your immune system, according to naturopathic doctor Connie Hernandez. In addition, proponents claim that swimming in seawater opens pores in the skin to allow the absorption of sea minerals and the expulsion of disease-causing toxins from the body. There’s a reason I’ve always been drawn to the sea, what incredible medicinal properties it has!

But if there’s no beach, that’s ok too!

Make sure to work in all the sights, sounds, and views of the place that you’re traveling to, if you’re not at the beach. Go for a run down the main strip, check out for a local pilates club, or find some Yoga in the park. No matter where or when you are, there’s always a way to work in a little exercise into your tourism with a fitness lifestyle attitude!

Do you find creative ways to workout while you’re traveling too, or are you a gym rat?
